Heal Yourself From Back and Neck Pain In Orem Utah
Have you ever wondered if you could heal yourself from back and neck pain in Orem Utah or other pain conditions? Today I'm going to review a TedTalk Published on Dec 18, 2012 In this talk, Lissa Rankin, MD, talks about the idea of healing ourselves by simply changing our minds, but is this concept grounded in cold, hard science? Lissa Rankin, MD explores the scientific literature, reviewing case studies of spontaneous remission, as well as placebo and nocebo effect data, to prove that our thoughts powerfully affect our physiology when we believe we can get well.
Here's the talk
The placebo effect happens when a person is given a treatment that has no physiologic affects on the body, but the mind is convinced it does causing an improved result. The person thinks the treatment will work and so it does.
For example, I first learned about the placebo affect as a kid watching the TV show M*A*S*H . In this episode the hospital has run out of an important medication without any means of getting it soon. So they start giving the injured soldiers sugar pills and telling them it's the real thing.
I tried this once as a teenager. My parents were away for a weekend and my little brother got sick. I told him mom and dad had left a special medicine for him, but it didn't taste very good so I added a little sugar to it. He thanked me, took the teaspoon of sugar and went to sleep. After waking he reported that he was feeling much better. This was only a single participant research study, but count me among the believers.
